FAQ: Part 2
Hi, friends! It’s been a couple months since I last posted this FAQ post, and since a lot has happened since then, I figured I’d give an update of sorts….so, here ya go!
Q: How’s the adoption going? A: The answer to this question probably depends on the day you ask and the mood I’m in when you happen to do so. This is likely due to the fact that some days it...

Our Adoption Pen Fundraiser
If you follow me on Facebook, you know by now that we’ve started a pen turning fundraiser to help with some of the expenses of bringing our child home from Uganda. We have a Chick-fil-a night that will benefit our family set for March 1st and our initial thought was to just turn some to have them to sell there. Aaron taught a turning class one night and brought a pen home and on a whim, I...
Lesson learning.
I’m learning a lot these days. I’m learning patience. I’m learning legal-jargon and weird terminology like what an adjudicator is and what kind of form an I 600 A or I 171-H is. I’m learning to trust. And I’m learning that while we are anticipating something really wonderful and hopeful for our future, that sometimes it’s easy to forget to appreciate the...

Eighty-one.
Today is my granddaddy’s 81st birthday and it’s no secret how much he means to me. I love him more than I can say. He’s one of those rare people who aren’t just happy for you, or sad for you—but instead, with you. People often comment to me on my close relationship with my grandparents. I wish everyone had a grandmother and a granddaddy like me. I really do.
Thank...
Excuse me, I'm having a moment
If you know me, you know that I’m a strange combination of tender-hearted and feisty. I’ll cry at a stinking Google Chrome commercial (you know, the one where the dad is writing to his little girl—oh.my.gosh), but I’ll also call you out if try to cut my 4’6” mother in line at the grocery store or stare at her too long (grown, middle-aged women—you are the...

Adoption FAQ
We have been blown away by the support shown to us by all of you. Thank you so much for being excited for us and praying for us. This is a strange journey to us with a lot of unfamiliar territory and a lot of uncertainty that lies ahead, and we are humbled and thrilled to find ourselves here. We have been asked A LOT of questions! Most of which we don’t know definite answers to…but i...
We're expecting...from Uganda!!
We are thrilled to finally announce that our little family will be growing! We are adopting from Uganda and God willing, will be bringing our little one home in the upcoming year. Adoption in and of itself is a journey, and we certainly have been on an interesting one just to get to where we are. We have prayed about adoption for years and we’re confident in the Lord’s plans for...

Quiet hope
“I’ll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness, the taste of ashes, the poison I’ve swallowed. I remember it all—oh, how well I remember—the feeling of hitting the bottom.
But there’s one other thing I remember, and remembering, I keep a grip on hope:
Gods loyal love couldn’t have run out, His merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re...

processing.
below are two posts i wrote for sweet sleep’s blog—the first, while in uganda and the last, after my return home. i’ve been home almost 3 weeks and just now really processing my trip. i’ll warn you, this post is kind of a stream of consciousness, so i’m hoping it will actually make some sense. it seems that the way i’ve started processing things is in terms of ...
Now I See.

While the Kampala team of Sweet Sleep’s mission trip to Uganda is in full swing this week, half of the Gulu team that did not stay for that portion, has made the long journey back home to the States. I have personally been welcomed back home by my loved ones, the conveniences of my everyday life (such as air conditioning and hot...

Today is day 5 of our Sweet Sleep mission to Gulu, Uganda, and for me personally, the most physically and emotionally charged day so far. I know full well that it will take quite some time for me to process what I have seen here: the extreme poverty, the disease ridden bodies of the sweet and helpless children, the faces...

life has been happening at an insane rate. in the past two weeks, i’ve had two family graduations, two family weddings, watched my best friend become a mother and celebrated the life and grieved the death of my papaw. all of this on top of what has already been an emotional year of growth and challenge. and in the midst of it, i am preparing for something so much greater than myself. in one...

things my grandmother taught me.
to lighten up.
details matter. every year my grandmother writes a chapter of a book about her life and gives it to us on our mccluskey girl’s weekend. she is a wonderful story-teller and remembers things in the most wonderful (and often times, hilarious) detail. it’s obvious she lives in the moment.
a quiet strength is the most powerful.
