We’re expecting…from Uganda!!

We are thrilled to finally announce that our little family will be growing! We are adopting from Uganda and God willing, will be bringing our little one home in the upcoming year. Adoption in and of itself is a journey, and we certainly have been on an interesting one just to get to where we are. We have prayed about adoption for years and we’re confident in the Lord’s plans for us.
For the past 11 weeks, we’ve been completing the first big step of the adoption process—the home study. We’ve had joint and individual interviews, paper work, classes, conferences, medical exams, background checks, more paper work and then finally, our home study last week.
I’m going to be honest, a part of me is hesitant to share this. We’ve had a year of ups and downs, of making plans and having them change completely, and in a way, I want to keep this close and guard it. In fact, I’ve written this post 3 times now, each sharing more or less. What I keep coming back to is this: this isn’t about me. Sometimes God asks us to do things that are bigger than ourselves, things that we wouldn’t have the courage to do otherwise. I’m learning that with obedience, comes great blessing.
There is a lot I will want to share, some of which for legal reasons with our government and Uganda’s I’ll be unable to here, but I’ll tell what I can. For now, I can tell you that we have not received a referral for our child yet. We didn’t specify a gender and we’ve requested 0-24 months in age. Beyond that, we don’t know many specifics. We do know that we’re completely humbled by this and that we can not wait to get to our little one. It is certain that our baby has either been born or conceived. Will you pray for our child? For the birth mother? For our baby’s story that we don’t yet know anything about, except that we’re a part of it.
